Today is St. Nick’s Day. And it seems that that right jolly old elf has left us a present in our collective shoe in the form of a Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer. This of course is the sequel to J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot-ish Star Trek, which “made Star Trek cool again,” (though I wasn’t aware that its inherent coolness had ceased.) Besides having a ho-hum title, Into Darkness looks like it will be another action-heavy space epic, with Chris Pine back in the Captain’s chair as Captain Kirk. From the teaser alone, it seems like the future Earth capital of San Francisco will be facing some major property damage, most likely at the hands of Benedict Cumberbatch’s mystery villain.
Many have speculated that Cumberbatch will be portraying Khan Noonien Singh, the role made famous by Ricardo Montalban’s chest. The end of the teaser mentions that the full trailer will be released on December 17, so that means you Trekkies have 11 days to dissect and theorize this trailer before you are all proven horribly wrong. Check out the teaser below for Star Trek Into Darkness, which opens on May 17, 2013.
